With a lineage stretching back over 100 million years, the American Paddlefish is one of the most unique species you can add to your pond. This prehistoric, filter-feeding fish is known for its elongated rostrum (“paddle”), docile behavior, and surprising growth potential.

Unlike predator species, Paddlefish feed by filtering plankton, making them an ideal choice for pond owners with fertile water, algae blooms, or over-productive systems. They require no supplemental feeding, grow fast under the right conditions, and are functionally sterile in most environments, posing no threat of overpopulation.

• Stocking Rate: 5–15 per surface acre
• Compatibility: Best in ponds with ample phytoplankton; not recommended for chlorinated, clear, or heavily aerated trout systems

⚠️ Legal Note

Not available in all states. Some states (like New York, Virginia, Oklahoma and California)  where the state prohibits private stocking of paddlefish.
