Is your common bluegill listing for common or hybrid bluegill?
Our common bluegill listing is for Lepomis macrochirus. It is separate from our coppernose bluegill listing and is not labeled as hybrid bluegill. Choose by the product name and selected size, rather than using “bream” or “sunfish” as an exact species description.
What do common bluegill eat?
Bluegill eat small aquatic animals, including insects, insect larvae and zooplankton. For supplemental feeding, we recommend our 4512 feed with 45% protein and 12% fat, the same feed we use. They can also take an appropriate prepared fish feed. Choose pellets they can swallow and watch whether they are actually eating them. Feeding is one part of managing growth alongside water quality and fish numbers.
How many common bluegill should I stock?
We recommend 300–500 common bluegill per acre for initial stocking and 150–250 per acre for supplemental stocking. Multiply the appropriate range by your pond’s surface acreage, then review the available fish sizes and package quantities in this product description. Account for the fish already present and your stocking goal.
How do I confirm my delivery date?
Please contact us before ordering if you need a particular date. We will confirm the shipping and arrival dates for your order. Availability, permits, weather and carrier service can affect timing. Overnight service describes transit after shipment, not the day after you order.
Can the fish sit on my porch until I get home?
No. Arrange for someone to be present when FedEx delivers, receive the fish immediately and introduce them into their prepared pond or tank within 15 minutes of the logged delivery time. Direct sun, extreme heat or extreme cold can quickly become fatal. If nobody can be there, contact us before the shipment is scheduled.
