Questions about this product

Why choose Florida F1 hybrid largemouth bass for my pond?

Our Florida F1 hybrid largemouth bass are a strong option for pond owners building a trophy bass fishery. “F1” means a first-generation cross between Florida-strain and Northern-strain largemouth bass. These hybrids bring together both parent strains and can show enhanced growth with abundant food and good pond management.

Based on our stocking experience, we recommend pairing Florida F1 hybrid largemouth bass with hybrid striped bass at a one-to-one ratio to support their growth: one hybrid striped bass for each Florida F1 hybrid largemouth bass.

Build their forage supply around common bluegill or coppernose bluegill. Provide shallow-water cover where young forage fish can shelter and grow; Minnow Grass can help create those nursery areas.

Our F1 stocking guide recommends 25–50 fish per acre. Use that as your starting point, accounting for bass already present and the available forage. The goal is to give each bass the food and space to develop its size potential.

How do I determine how many fish to stock?

Start with your pond’s surface acreage and review each species’ product description for available stocking guidance, fish sizes and package quantities. Where initial and supplemental stocking recommendations are listed, choose the one that matches your pond. Review each species separately rather than applying one stocking rate to every fish.

What should I compare when choosing fish feed?

Start with the fish species, their size, and whether they feed at the surface or below it. We use the same high-protein feed we sell. Our 4512 feed contains 45% protein and 12% fat. Many basic catfish and general-purpose pond feeds contain less protein and fat. Protein supports growth, while fat supplies concentrated energy, making the formula especially important when feeding predatory fish.

In our experience, largemouth bass and hybrid striped bass train well to our 4512 feed. The right pellet size and a consistent feeding routine also matter. Not every fish starts taking pellets immediately, but neither species should be dismissed as unable to learn.

Compare the formula, pellet size and floating or sinking form. A protein percentage alone does not tell you whether a feed is suitable for your fish.

Will larger forage fish be protected from predators?

Larger fish can be harder for some predators to swallow, but size alone does not protect them. Match the forage size to the predator fish and your goal. A fish bought as immediate food and a fish bought to establish breeding stock may call for different choices.

How do I confirm my delivery date?

Please contact us before ordering if you need a particular date. We will confirm the shipping and arrival dates for your order. Availability, permits, weather and carrier service can affect timing. Overnight service describes transit after shipment, not the day after you order.

Can the fish sit on my porch until I get home?

No. Arrange for someone to be present when FedEx delivers, receive the fish immediately and introduce them into their prepared pond or tank within 15 minutes of the logged delivery time. Direct sun, extreme heat or extreme cold can quickly become fatal. If nobody can be there, contact us before the shipment is scheduled.
